PAINTED FACADES
The technique of architectural decoration trompe l'oeil, consists in translating the three-dimensional architectural elements "deceiving the eye" in the pictorial dimension. This has in particular in the Ligurian territory, an important past that from the XV-XVI century has spread to noble and popular buildings.
The painted facades have embellished for centuries, with great expansion in the 18th and 19th centuries, the streets and squares of most of the larger towns and smaller seaside and inland villages in this region and beyond.
Today it is important to preserve and re-propose the decorative and aesthetic apparatuses of these buildings, which generally consist of squares, ornaments and figures. Therefore, starting from the study of the painted architectural decoration of Genoese tradition, the company offers the possibility to restore and design facades painted with complex architectural structures, decorated with moulded ornaments and trompe l'oeil ex-novo or to recover the pre-existing tracing.
The conservative approach of the painted facade leads to the study of the chromatic relief and the existing architectural score, which with the help of the research of archive and photographic documentation, provides an additional means necessary for the restoration of the building. Generally the old buildings were painted with a paint based on lime and natural pigments, spread on the plaster during the drying phase, such as to guarantee its complete absorption through the carbonation process. This guaranteed greater compactness and resistance over time.
The design of a decorative apparatus from scratch, requires a series of preliminary assessment, starting from the observation of the context in which the building is inserted, the size of the building and the colors of the surrounding buildings, verifying and respecting the existing landscape constraints in relation to the offices of aesthetics of the municipality of reference.
The company then follows the intervention starting from the study and design phases, before the building site and the service scaffolding are set up.
It then takes care to verify that the entire working cycle, starting from the state of the plaster of the elevations, is adequate and free of defects before carrying out the intervention of painted architectural decoration, using appropriate materials capable of ensuring durability over time and the best aesthetic final result.
After the design phase we proceed to the production of dusting necessary to trace the overall dimensions such as: tympanums, ashlars, panelling, pilasters, balustrades designed in perspective. Whenever possible, the nail marking is proposed again on the plaster to be carried out in collaboration with the construction company. The quantity of colors necessary for the formulations of "shadows and lights" characterizing this type of pictorial intervention is then produced on site, to translate the three-dimensional effect prospectively on a horizontal plane. Among the materials chosen and used mainly: lime based, potassium silicate-based or siloxane based colors.
